Seven issues in, I”m still conflicted about this crossover.  With the exception of the core story, about Thorn and the baility to write the universe, I love every plot point.  The Jack Frost character, the Jack/Rose Red/every other Fable interactions, the cult of Blue, the new post-war loss of Fabletown, etc.  And I think I understand why the Thorn story is here.  Wilingham had a certain number of stories outlined for the series.  When he reached the end, he realized he still had a very popular cast of characters with a lot of possible future stories, but he didn’t know what central plot to give them.  So, why not turn the crux of the story into your own story about overcoming writer’s block.  It’s not that it doesn’t work, it’s that it’s the least interesting part of this series.

Luckily, in this issue, there’s enough non-Thorn plot going on to make this very interesting.  And I do like his marketing technique of having all of the Fables characters stories play out in Jack Of Fables, while the Jack of Fables storyline plays out in Fables.  I hope it works to draw more people into each series.
