This book is about a Dr. Doom back political take-over of Wakanda.  T’Challa, Black Panther, and Storm are heavily focused on with some X-Men thrown in for good measure.  I have read BP in the past, but I haven’t checked out the most recent run with the female BP.  Even not having read that volume, I was still able to follow the storyline of this book pretty easily.

I would say that this book is probably in the same vein as “Annihilation” or “War of Kings”.  It’s a mini-event that focuses on one small corner of the Marvel Universe and I have to say, I really liked it.  If this book lives up to the potential that was evident in the first issue the following things could happen;

1.        Storm and T’Challa’s marriage will be ended or they will at least separate.  Based on the set-up in this issue, I could totally see this playing out.

2.       The status quo of Black Panther will be resolved.  Like I said, I didn’t read the most recent volume, but right now we have T’Challa AND a Black Panther.  It seems very similar to having Steve Rogers AND a Captain America.  It’s a little redundant.  Marvel better watch out or their going to essentially have “The Titans” of Marvel (female BP, Bucky Cap,  Dr. Voodoo Sorcerer Supreme, etc.)

3.       Ummm…I can’t think of a third.

My favorite aspects of this book were;

How the writer handled Storm.  She’s a tough chick who’s been through A LOT, but most writers don’t know what to do with her.

How the writer positioned Cyclops as the political equivalent of T’Challa.  This is an interesting take that I haven’t seen done well in the Xbooks.

Overall, I’m really excited to see what will happen in this event.  Because it doesn’t focus on marquee characters (excluding the X-Men), I feel like some real changes could take place.

I don’t know how this story will end and that’s the best part.

Check it out.

P.S.  The Storm “Women of Marvel” variant cover is GORGEOUS!

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
