Having enjoyed both the work on FEAR Agent as well as the bits of Punisher that I have read, I expected to enjoy Remender’s work on Dr. Voodoo. I have been sadly disappointed and I must, remorsefully, report this to be my final issue. I have found these four issues to be wanting the usual levity and humor with which Remender peppers his other great books. There is no joy in FEAR Agent, and yet it is easy to chuckle during some moments. The same was true of the bits of Punisher I had read. His writing style, when good, reminds me a lot of Firefly and Serenity. Dr. Voodoo is not that. It is wordy, morose, self-doubting and simply not fun. It has action, which is fine, but the self-loathing, mopey protagonist is utterly uninteresting. Further, in four issues, we’ve really learned nothing about Mr. Drumm. Finally, the art is very much not to my taste. The layouts are fine for the most part – though there are still panels I simply do not know what is happening – but the actual drawing is hideous to me and the costume design actually hurts my eyes.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 1 - Poor
