You know I’m really loving the trend lately of bringing back ‘lost’ comics back to the public eye. Vertigo has been doing it a lot lately, and so has DC in general. Now it’s time for Marvel to get in on the game by giving us a Doctor Strange story that was once lost from cancellation. Is this worthy to bring back from the dead? Or did it need to collect dust some more?

Let me start off by saying that I did enjoy the introduction by Roger Stern in the beginning. It’s nice to learn a little bit of inside information on the process of making a comic and sometimes seeing it disappear. Going into the comic itself……It was alright. I mean there’s really not much that stands out here in terms of the writing. It’s not that old of a story idea, in fact Stern mentions he recently wrote the plot again to update it, so the old-school dialogue isn’t that much of a problem. Although having Strange to explain what we’re already seeing gets a bit tiresome. In reality nothing made this that special of an issue, even with the art. I like Neil Vokes style that’s a mix of very cartoony figures with a Steve Diko-lite composition. But again it really didn’t make me think it was any better of an issue then what is on the page.

I might sound a bit harsh with this comic, but I did have fun reading it. It’s just that, at the end of the day, there doesn’t seem to be that much reason to bring this comic back into the public eye. DC seems to be bringing stories with some sort of revelance and theme for when they come out. Here it’s like someone at Marvel saw DC’s ‘Vault’ approach and took a random old script to do for competition. If your a fan of Doctor Strange (and also like to make him sound like Dr. Orpheus like me) then you will enjoy this. For everyone else, let’s hope the next Vault issue (if there is any) will be a bit more interesting.
