I really want to like either Batman or Detective again, but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen anytime soon. It’s a mixed blessing to be a Batman fan right now. So many titles. So little quality control.
Everything in this issue, from the story concept to the panel layouts just failed to connect with me.

"So many titles. So little quality control."
Well put. This is EXACTLY what I’ve been feeling about these. I hope one of the new fall books have some consistent quality.
I enjoyed Batwomans run on Detective but as that ended I hoped it would get back into the grove and be good. I havent really liked the last issues and this one even though I havent picked it up, looks like this one is no different .Detective is on my reserve at my comic shop and im hoping it will get better or I might think about canceling it. Its a shame that there are some really great batman books out there and then there are some really bad ones. I started out buying gotham sirens and Streets of gotham, and have stopped collecting them both. Im holding out and hoping that DC will turn this title around.
I third the ‘quality control’ remark. It seems like, after RIP, they said, "Everyone likes Morisson on Batman and Dini on Detective, so let’s give them their own, new books. People will follow them there, and keep buying Batman and ‘Tec, too!"
That started off fine, when Batman & Robin and Streets of Gotham were good, ‘Tec had Batwoman, and Batman was… ok. But then Morrison slipped a bit, Dini stopped writing every other month, Batwoman wrapped up and Batman… also slipped (more than a bit). Now things are a bit of a mess.
And don’t get me started on Gotham City Sirens.
