Thank God Rucka’s Question storyline is really interesting, or else this being the final issue of the Batwoman arc would have induced a temper tantrum in me.  “It can’t be over!  It can’t!  It’s so good!  It’s not fair!  Why are comics like Youngblood and Glamourpuss allowed to thrive with their static art and uninteresting (ok, there are flashes of coolness in Glamourpuss, but they appear roughly as often as Halley’s Comet) drivel, while we only get six half-issues of the best Batman universe story I’ve read/oggled in years???  Not fair!  Not fair!  I’m taking m,y eyes and going home!!!!”

But, you know, that didn’t, uh, happen.  Much.

Yea, yea, Williams pictures pretttttttttttttttttttty is not news.  His panel layout is meticulous and engaging.  Stewart;s color treatment is bold and wow.  What surprised me was the Dave Mack like panel near the middle of the issue when the colors go from RED BLACK RED YOU BETTER CHECK YOURSELF!!!! to a muted stasis shot with interference lines and the background barely inked behind it.  What a perfect page.  And the story.  The end.  Damn you, Rucka.  Damn you, this was good.

Also, bonus points to Williams for the cover, in which the bat emblem perfectly transforms into cleavage.  I don’t know what to make of the dagger placement, though.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. I am so mad that I have to wait until Friday to get my books this week! I wanna read Detective so damn bad too.

  2. I have a feeling this will be my personal pick of the week. I’ve read a preview and I like what I’m seeing.
