Before I picked up this comic I wondered if it was possible to sum up the life of an icon that has been around for about 70 years. In all honestly, I can not think of anyother character that has had such an influence on  society and pop culture as Batman did . I know people are going to say that Superman was equal or perhaps greater to Batman, but as my friend told me one day at work “everyone knows Superman, but we all want to be Batman.”

So with Batman essentially dead after facing the God of Evil and winning it fell onto Neil Gamian to deliver the eulogy in this two issue funeral for Batman. Any doubts that I had about this story was squashed as I put down the comic. Gamian proves why he is a master story teller with this last issue. He chose not give us the way Batman died, but why he had to die. He purposley showed us that it doesnt matter how Batman dies because it will alwats be for the same reason; defending the weak from the evils of the world. Thats the genius of Gamian, he reminded us of a part of Batman that we forgot there is no retirement for Batman, he never quits doing the right thing so his only escape is death. Wow, I dare anyone to say they didn’t get a little choked up as the story came to a close and Batman said his goodbye.

In the end its only fitting that Batman’s final story would be him solving the greatest mystery of all, the meaning to his own life

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. I accept your dare. I didn’t get choked up in the slightest 😛

I wasn’t into this comic at all, because I’m more than tired of this meta-textual out of continuity stuff. This is a good review though, & I’m glad you liked it.

  2. There were approaches they could have taken but unfortunately they didn’t try too hard to make me sad over Wayne’s death.
