While I am still devoted to this series, I have to admit the last couple of issues have been a bit of a drag. Not terrible, but definitely not the strongest issues Daniel Way has written in a while. Hearing that this new arc was going to be about vampires, I wasn’t expecting much either. I mean it’s doing two things I don’t particularly like:

A) Get involved with a title I don’t read (and it involved Victor Gischler in an obscure way).

B) Vampires are overexposed like hell.

Then I read the issue, and all of those negative thoughts came out of my head. Cause let me tell you guys, this is the best issue of the series to come out in a while.

The running joke of Deadpool refusing to call any vampire anything but ‘Dracula’ kept me laughing to no end. It doesn’t sound funny I know, but Way just writes it so consistantly and Deadpool is so adamant on the subject that it made it so funny to me. There are also a lot of other good jokes involved and it’s a good average of jokes that made me laugh rather than cringe then from other issues. Plus I like it that Way doesn’t make all ‘Draculas’ evil which make them stand out more from the generic Draculas…..See now I’m doing it.

No Paco Medina or Carlos Barberi in sight for this issue. Instead we get Bong Dazo (yes his real name) and I’m really happy to see him come back. His style is something that takes a while to get used to but it really works for a book like this. It has this sorta weird, cartoony vibe to it that makes it stand out when the violence gets ratched up. But Dazo’s style seems to have improved since the last time he did a Deadpool book. Gone is the sock-like head he gave Deadpool; and the characters in generic look more clean and crisp. Maybe it’s because he’s got a strong inker to make things more ‘tight’ for him in the drawings. Oh, that and the colors make his work even stand out more when the action starts to heat up.

This issue really made me happy so much to be a Deadpool fan again. It’s the strongest issue in months for Daniel Way and the constant Dracula jokes made this a joy to read. Also, he’s got a top notch artist to stand in for the other great artists who have done the series. This anit gonna make me want to read X-Men and their ‘Curse of the Mutants’ arc; but it definitely gives me a new light on Draculas…..I mean Vampires!

  1. You got me to read the first few arcs of this series . . .

Now you are tempting me to check it out again . . .

  2. @Scorpion: The last few arcs haven’t been the best. But this issue was really good, I’d recommend it.
