A while ago I made a promise to myself that I would always give every new series a chance. They had 22 pages to convince me to pick up the next issue, if not the series would be picked up in a trade. I tell you this because I broke the promise to myself when I bought Dead Romeo #2> In all honesty, the first issue sucked but the second issue got better.
The art in the first issue was okay but the color scheme seemed wrong. It made the artist drawing look for a lack of better term chamoflage. They seem to not stand out from the background. Now with this issue their is more action and the colorist seem to have lighten its tone.
Also the writing wasn’t horrible but it lacked structure. In the first one Instead of introducing us to Romeo the author puts us in the middle of the story where Romeo has to decide whether to continue his life as a vampire or walk away from it and hopefully not take another trip to hell. It would have been a good start if this was a graphic novel but it failed to sell a normal joe who would have to wait 30 days for the next issue. With the secon issue the author was able to flush out Romeo and his villainous gang of just out of hell vampires. The story start to intrigue me because it stop being a vampire trying to be reddem and a man trying to escape his former life and leave the gang.
Eventhough the whole vampire with a soul has been done to death with Romeo’s climatic cliff hanger guarantees that I will be buying the next issue. i also hope that this creative team continues in making each issue greater than the last.
Art: 3 - Good
