When we pulled this title out of the box in the warehouse, we made many comments about how any idea that Gene Roddenbery ever scribbled on a napkin was destined to end up as a tv show.movie/comic/novel.

This was a very exciting napkin.

It’s very similar to The Stand, in that there’s a big bad killer virus (similar to, but more infectious than Ebola) that’s set to wipe out humanity.  This virus is currently centered in Swaziland, and the world would like to keep it there.  So the nation is quarantined, and a group of doctors gets together to try and come up with a cure.  Among them is the immortal mystic character who adds the fantasy element to the sci-fi.

Each issue of this series seems to be a complete story taking place in different eras.  The hook being that when the main character sets events into motion, the characters forget meeting him, but retain the information he’s passed along to them.

Frazer Irving’s art is what elevates the story.  The colors are lush, and the lines are spare and elegant.

At just 99 cents, this was easily the best buy of the week.  And I’m definitely down for picking up the next issue.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
