While nobody is likely to mistake Darkwing Duck #3 for Daytripper or anything, this issues does bring some genuine emotion into play by adding to its already strong mix of laugh out loud comedy and surprisingly well done action, some nice little touches of humanity (duckmanity? *shrugs* Whatever.). In addition to a sight gag which brings another beloved Disney Afternoon property into the mix and a rather breathtaking dogfight sequence, this issue finally reveals why exactly Darkwing decided to hang up the old cape and gas gun. Its a smart reason, logical, if somewhat familiar, and getting back to the core idea of family that always has lain at the, admittedly still silly, heart of the show. Also the arcs big bad is finally revealed, and while you would probably have to be a long time DW fan to recognize him, I am that said fan and thus completely loved it. This comic continues to be proof that the banner ‘all ages’ does not have to be synonymous with crap or just for little kids.

  1. Iloved the cartoon , and I love this book every bit as much . Way to go BOOM.

  2. Now that you’ve put the idea in my head, I can’t stop thinking about Ducktripper: a Duck Tales series where Launchpad Mcquack dies in every issue.
