SO if you're looking to make some parallels between this and the real world, i guess it's like an impressionable teenager falling in with a gang or at the very least the drug-taking sad kids from high school (just like TNC did) or Lost Boys. or something.
And ultimately that's not bad thing.
In fact, it's an excellent way to play with the teen superhero genre. These young avengers aren't the picture perfect, photogenic and morally up-standing Teen Titans; they are more like the misfit teenagers in faux-punk gear irritating people on the train or making clowns of themselves in a fast food place. They are the kind of kids that make you scratch your head and wonder, Was i really that stupid at their age too?
Great! That's a interesting concept. Idiot superheroes; that's a fantastic way to create characters' with the pomp and ceremony of tradistional superheroes but with the flawed nature of humanity (especially TNC).
So in this first issue we're introduced to these sad, dejected idiot superheroes. Although my marvel history is not on the regular marvel zombie/autist level, i'll try to describe who these new characters are and where they gathered their inspiration from. (and remember the obvious inspiration of the original Young Avengers almost always seemed to be false in the first series and in tune with the whole villian take control theme of Dark Reign, i would say most of these characters have ties to supervillians)
Firstly, the Enchantress, some asgardian magic user but she has a speak impediment and also sounds like a retard using the Thor-speak so i would say that's a cover story and she's actually related to another magic based villian.
The Melter, he's a dude with really hot hands that melt things, i think there was a Iron Man villian with melty hands so maybe there's contection there. He is the "leader" of the team and the most interested in acting like a superhero. he also has the realisation at the end of the book that the rest of the team are a pack of arseholes and that he shouldn't be involved with them.
Big Zero, a size changing skin-headed punk chick. She could be related to one of the many nazi-based supervillians of the Marvel U.
The Executioner, the original executioner was an asardian but i don't really see that connection with this character. He seems more like the Punisher; who we all know is consider a "hero", ipso facto, i think he is related to one of the Punisher's villians like Crossbones or Jigsaw.
Egghead, he reminds me of the Nimrod sentinal from the days of future past reality.
Coat of Arms, she have six arms, therefore, might have something to do with that six armed x-men villian from Mojo World.
so not a bad first issue, i'm excited for the next
