A lot of people, after Crossed #00 and #01 came out, complained about the violence and gore, and said how they wished it were ‘toned down.’

Well, in this issue, it was toned down. Sure, it was still more graphic than most comics coming out right now, but it was nothing as bad as the first two issues. In toning it down, though, it seems that it became quite boring.

I dunno, I read the last two issues and liked them, and it wasn’t only because of the gore and violence (I could’ve been happy with less, actually), but I felt like there was something there. I love zombies (even though I guess these aren’t technically zombies), and I love post-apocalyptic storylines, but this issue just failed to capture me. None of the characters are particularly likable and none of the drama ever feels real. When I read something like The Walking Dead for instance, it’s not the zombies and the gore that keep me interested, it’s the characters and their unique personalities and how they’re dealing with living in this world. With Crossed, there’s almost none of this.

I’ll give it a few more issues to pick up, but I was pretty disappointed with this one.

  1. I’m the opposite of you with this issue. I thought the first one (2 if you count #0) were kinda dull, even if they a lot of gore & violence, it just seemed flat. Nothing new or different.  But this issue was awesome, the characters are starting to come through & the sense of terror these people would feel 24/7 is coming across well. Before this issue came out, I was thinking I’d drop this, but now I’m on board.

My favourite part of the issue — circle jerk onto live rounds to infect people they shoot. Hilarious & twisted.

I find it hard to compare a book like this to The Walking Dead.  Crossed is a 9 book limited run which doesn’t necessarily have the luxury of time to fully flesh out (no pun intended) characters and personalities at the same pace as an on-going series, so it’s an unfair comparison in that regard.  I take this book for what it’s worth, another apocolyptic survival story with an extra dose of ultra-violence and depravity.
