story JOHN LAYMAN
art & cover ROB GUILLORY

Size: 32 pages
Price: 2.99

The solicit is entitled WtF vampires.  And while that’s an accurate description to the beginning of this issue, there are many different WtF ___noun___s  littered throughout the rest of the issue, particularly when the cliffhangers hit.  Brilliant WtF moments.

If Layman and Guillory can somehow manage to keep this up for 20, 30, 100 more issues, it will be proof positive that one or both have them have either a.) sold their soul to some demon or deity; or b.) are just writing non-fiction stories from whatever alternate universe they came from.

I’m most impressed with how hectic the pacing is for these stories.  There has been little to no breathing room since the first page of the first issue, and yet I feel very connected to every character in the book.  Yea, the events are crazy, but there appears to be much more to these people than the bizzare things that happen to them.  I’m very curious to see if Layman ever does choose to slow the pace down, and if he does, if th(at)(ose) issue(s) will hold up to these first runs.
