I have no idea what is more disturbing:

Tony Chu getting horribly beaten up in this arc
OR
Director Penya in the opening pages of this issue.

I gotta give John Layman and Rob Guillory credit for not being conservative in this series. If they want an old, decrepit woman naked to start an issue then by golly they’ll do it! With the end of this arc I must also say that I still have no idea what the big picture of this series is. Even though we do get a very funny hint at the 60th, and final, issue I still have no idea what is going to happen. Whether that is good or bad I think it’s a sign of how good of a writer John Layman is. Cause with all of this hilarious stuff happening in each issue I barely even think about the overall plot of the series.

I really feel bad to talk about Rob Guillory’s art sometime because it’s hard to find new stuff to talk about. He really is showcasing why he is one of, if not, the best artist in comics right now so it’s hard to keep talking about perfection. No matter what the situation calls for, Guillory gives more then 100% to the pages. The double page spread in this, with the various groups Layman totally made up for Guillory was fantastic. (Also, look at the balcony to see my favorite Muppets) So the fact that it pains me to see NO nominations for Guillory in the Eisner’s this year is really head scratching.

More to that point, NOTHING about Chew was nominated this year. I couldn’t believe that when I saw it because it usually gets nominated for art….But NOTHING. That is really ridiculous considering what these two men dish out every issue. Sure this series isn’t on time every time but did that stop other delayed monthly comics being nominated? Sometimes tells me the Eisner nominees don’t love Chew which is a shame….Cause I’d vote for it as ‘The Best Series Ever’ if I was given the vote.

Story: 5 - Excellent
