Let’s see if any of you guys can spot the ‘Hidden Joke’ of the week! That’s right boys and girls, Rob Guillory loves to add hidden jokes in almost every issue. It not only makes us, the readers, look at the issue more closely. But it also makes us appreciate Guillory’s talents on a whole even more so. So let’s see if anyone can comment to me where this Hidden Joke is!:

“Cowboy Hat Receipts”

On the issue at hand, once again Layman and Guillory deliver a near perfect issue. While this issue in perticular was a bit slow in terms of the pacing; it by no means lower its quality. Layman continues to add in more depth with Chu and I think he did do a bit of a ‘retcon’ to state he had a girlfriend before Amelia. Now when I say ‘retcon’ I just mean that he introduces us to a plot point not shown before. But it is somewhat of a cheat because even with only 13 issues prior to this; Layman did kind of made the point Chu was a lonely and pathetic loser before being FDA. Not saying he couldn’t have had a girlfriend before this issue, but Layman did seem to indicate that he didn’t before hand. Anyways that doesn’t really hurt the issue at all (more of a nitpick) and everything really worked here. From the past girlfriend introduced here, to Mason Savoy continuing his hunt to reveal the chicken truth to the world. It shows both Layman’s quality of telling good jokes to just adding tension.

Add in with even more outstanding Guillory artwork and you get the same as usual. Just a great mix of cartoony and ultra violent qualities to the issue. He also shows his creepy side at bit in this with the past girlfriend Chew had. I don’t know if I needed to see her in the bathroom, going insane; but it nevertheless creeped me out. But how he also handles flashbacks, character emotions, and the detail in the backgrounds make every issue seem like it took ages to do.

What else can I say about this series that I haven’t said before? It continues to bring in amazing art, a funny and intriuging story, and overall entertain us like no other comic. We’re almost at the 1/4th mark of the series if that shocks you like it does to me. It doesn’t feel like we’ve gone past fourteen issues because every issue is a joy to re-read almost every single week.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
