Finally! I’ve been waitinf for this issue for so long now. This series has been such a fun ride, I was worried I’d never see another issue. So far the series is 2/2 for story arcs, and now we are starting the third arc? Is the momentum still going strong for the series? In short: Yes….yes it is.

I am loving this relationship with Chu and Mintz over the past few issues. Layman just gets this relationship down: it’s funny, awkward, but cute at the same time. Speaking of awkward, we get more of Applebee acting a bit too nice. Since we know exactly why that is, it’s only a matter of time before that shit hits the fan. I loved the swerve at the end of this issue too. (I won’t spoil it persay, or won’t give out specifics so don’t worry) You think the prologue at the beginning (and the cover) would be huge for this. Instead it’s something else from the prologue so I like it how Layman doesn’t even make the strange elements predictable. Overall another great, original idea and some hilarious moments make this another strong issue.

Speaking of strong, how great is Guillory’s art? Ever since the end of the last issue I have studied ever panel ever so closely. Hidden jokes and just great attention to detail makes each issue a blast to look at. It always shocks me, no matter how far we are into this series, how violent it can get. One moment we get a couple of panels with blood being spilled everywhere, the next we have a hilarious final page. Some will say that ‘oh they are doing the ending from a couple of issues again.’ To me though, that feeling all washed away with the look on Chu’s face. That’s all I say, you need to see if for yourselves.

Layman and Guillory have done, by my calculations, eleven straight issues of pure perfection. Each issue is funnier then the last and the ideas Layman writes for a plot is so original. Guillory then takes those ideas and draw one of the most original and fantastic looking series to come out in a long time. If it wasn’t for the lateness, once in a while, I would probably say this is a better indie title then Sweet Tooth. Well let’s just say it for the heck of it: Chew is a fantastic indie title and you are so missing out if you still haven’t read it yet.
