It is good to be a Hercules fan once again!

This Chaos War event (mini-event, mini, whatever you call it!) has been so fresh in my eyes. It’s everything that I loved about the Incredible Hercules series and then some. We’re already on the third issue and I can quite honestly say that: Not only is this the best issue of the event so far, but it could easily be the best work all of the creators involved has ever done.

I mean that last statement. Because even though Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente has done a lot of great issues over the series (both for Hercules and others) they are really on all cylinders with this issue. The shit is literally hitting the fan and it is not looking good for the GOD SQUAD. The opening with the dead Gods fighting the squad was exciting and well paced. Plus it gives some closure to the overall relationship with Herc and his father Zeus. But I loved moments of Galactus fighting Zeus and Thor/Cho having an intimate moment. (Don’t ask) Then you have the Chaos King coming in towards the end and it really blew me away. Pak and Van Lente sure can write a big hole for the heroes to be in. I seriously can’t see how this is gonna be resolved. But the plotting and overall great writing of the various characters will make me want to see where it’s gonna go.

Oy, Khoi Pham where have you been with this talent all my life! Pham has done some really great stuff the last two issues. Here, stating once again, he seriously is doing his best work in this issue. All the of the fighting in this is easy to tell what’s going on but also fantastically drawn. But the real highlight for Pham is near the end sequence where the Chaos King starts his rampage on the Gods. A series of splash pages showing each setting for the gods is set by an epic scope of size and huge amount of detail. Notice the ‘Zelda’ cameo in one of them.

This event is just getting better and better every time it comes out. Greg Pak, Fred Van Lente, Khoi Pham, and everyone else involved creatively did a fantastic job with this issue. It is epic in scope in terms of art and story, and the art in itself is just a sight to behold. I cannot wait to see where this event is gonna lead us. You see Marvel? This is how an event is suppose to look like.
