Oh Oz.
I love Oz.
I have hated Tara because she drove a wedge between
Oz and Willow.
Oh glorious Oz.
This issue was excellent, because Oz
always felt like he got the shaft more than any other character in the
Buffy universe. The fact that Willow feels heart weary actually makes
me happy.
Sorry to focus on Oz, but I think how you feel about him is
how you'll take this issue. They got his voice more or less exactly
right. If you can't hear Seth Green in your head saying "that is the
dog" then there's something wrong with your inner voice.
I really enjoy
the love interest, even though her dark secret was pretty obvious.
As
for the stuff with Twilight, I wish that it wasn't so predictable. Not
just the going to the incorrect place to find the submarine but also
the whole killing the guy that pointed it out even though he tried to
dissuade them from going there. Is the reveal that he actually knew
Buffy something new? The story seemed to be treating it as such, but it
didn't really feel like something we either didn't know or couldn't
have guessed.
I love the red herring of everyone being distracted by
the word "spike." I still say it's Reilly in the mask and his wife got
killed out in South America, but we'll see.
The art was fine. I liked
the way the wolves looked, and appreciate how hard it is for a lot of
artist to do that.
This issue was a lot more fun for me, again, mostly
due to Oz, but I liked it.
Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 3 - Good
Riley's not in the mask because maskless Riley is part of Twilight's team. (I still think he's a double agent, though; there's no reason for him to be part of this crew!)
