"Captain America: Who Won't Wield The Shield" isnt for everyone. And I am perfectly fine with that because it is really, really funny. And again, the humor is'nt for everyone. This is mostly because it's all in-jokes about the comics industry, Marvel Editorial policy, and the creators that inhabit it. But luckily the people telling these jokes are the likes of Jason Aaron and Matt Fration. They're are three main storys in this book, the first is written by Jason Aaron and it bookends the book with a story that stars Forbush Man(a joke StanLee creation that was recently used to great effect in Warren Ellis's Nextwave) and also stars Aaron himself along with Editor Steve Whacker, Ed Brubaker, Brian Bendis, and Fraction. Forbush man acts as a mouthpiece to alot of recent Comic Criticism's (specifically "Why are'nt comics for kids?" and Aaron's nature for ultra-violence) and from there we move onto the meat of the book.
The second story is written by fraction with illustraitons by the trippy tastic Brendan McCarthy entitled "Doctor America". I'm not going to lie to you, I have no idea what the hell this story was about but damn if it wasnt entertaining: blackeyed chakras, Black Panthers Black Panthers, goat boy buckys, Nixon quoting Red Skulls, and a russerection via the chanting of the word Ditkirbamko! It doesnt have to make sense because its so fun you dont really care.
The third and arguebly weakest story is by Stuart Moore and Joe Quinos focuses on the orgin of "Golden Age" deadpool. Now heres the thing, I dont know if this was the intentional "lets put deadpool in everything" move or "Lets put deadpool in everything and make fun of that". Either way it was ok but not great.
At the end of the day this book is inconsequential and almost everbody dies at the end. Good times.
