I have been hooked with Marvel’s “70th Anniversary” issues for a time now. They bring back the nostalgia of the early days of Marvel (or Timely as they were called) Comics. But I have forgotten to pick up the very first of these tribute issues, and it the biggest hero of them all that graces the issue.

As you all know, I am no fan of James Robinson. Everything he has written in my eyes either have been overhyped or just not that good of a read. But after reading this particular issue, I would love to see him write Captain America in some capacity. He just gets the character with this issue, and Rogers isn’t even Cap for 99% of the issue. We’re following the adventure of the more fragile Rogers, before he got the Super Soilder serum. Robinson shows the readers on why Rogers has always been destined to be the hero that he is. Even with the odds against him, he will still fight for his country and believe in the American Dream. Sure he might not pack a punch, but he has the brains in this issue to outsmart the Nazi’s.

The art by Marcos Martin….well…..come on….it’s Marcos Martin!!! Letting one of the most gorgeous pencillers to do this issue was a good move by Marvel. I wanna stress the backgrounds of this comic, absolutely stunning. That two page spread of Rogers walking down the street, loved how he designed that. No panel breaks, just letting the reader soak in on this timeline by seeing the epic cityscape around him. Stunning, most likely one of the best looking comics of the year.

Then we get one of the craziest stories I have ever read. With Cap and Bucky trying to solve a murder on a baseball team. This is just a great throwback comic. It reminds us again on why Captain America is one of the greatest heroes of our lifetime. Steve Rogers fought for our country whether it be Nazi’s, people in masks, or just anyone trying to harm us. Maybe him coming back is the best move to do right now, considering how bad the Marvel U is shaping up to be.

Story: 5 - Excellent
