This just came in the mail yesterday. Still really enjoying this series. At times Alan Davis’ art reminds me of Gene Colan. As a matter of fact, these Brubaker/Davis issues remind me of the Stan Lee/Gene Colan era on the title.

The cover really has a Jack Davis/John Severin feel. Very nice.

This title has taken on a bit of a nostalgic, almost Bronze Age feel. I’m liking the portrayal of the other characters as well as that of Steve Rogers.

The reveal was kind of obvious if you’ve read as much Captain America and Super-Soldier material as I have over the last few years, but still fun nonetheless. Anybody who read the Super-Soldier mini must’ve seen it coming.

Really digging the villains and the overall sense of fun in this book.

A little pricey, but I subscribe, so I get a really good discount. I look forward to finding this title in my mailbox. Couldn’t wait for this issue to arrive, and it didn’t disappoint.

Because iFanboy’s rating system only allows whole numbers, my exact rating would be more like:

Story: 3.5 (Better Than Just Good, Not Quite Great)
Art: 3.75 (Occasionally Awesome, Sometimes Vague)

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. Spot on review. I whole heartedly agree. BruBakers made us jump through quite a hoop with starting us out with McNiven and then switching to Davis. The two are night and day.
