I am so tired of this perpetual “Two Americas” story and am glad to see it’s over, but I don’t feel good about my overall view of this book and where it stands now. Ed Brubaker’s plot and dialogue have been far beneath his formidable peaks on this title, so much so that I wonder if he’s gotten bored with the main Cap book after putting so much juice into “The Marvels Project.” Is Captain America due for a reinvigoration? Yes, certainly. Is Brubaker leaving this book? No, and I wouldn’t want him to. He needs shorter, punchier stories along the lines of the fabulous Union Jack/Spitfire crossover a few years ago. Oh, and he needs a better artist than Luke Ross, who is clearly not benefiting from Butch Guice’s inks.
