Brace yourselves. I am going to start with two dirty, nasty and foul words…Liefeld and A v X. That’s right, boys and girls, I just cursed all over this page. To let you know where I am coming from so that you can evaluate for yourselves the merit of this review let me say this, I am a comic book fan because Cable, Domino, Boom Boom, Cannonball, Warpath, Shatterstar and Feral grabbed the teenage me and pounded me into comics with a great big smile on my face, and I have returned to the ever fickle fold of my comic book brethren with the A v X event. Yeah, I’m THAT guy.

As for Cable’s return of his own, I’m in. I am excited that Cable is once again at the forefront of a trained unit. I literally pumped my hands in the air at the title page…but remember I’m THAT guy. I enjoy the fact that I don’t know much about Dr. Nemesis and don’t remember much of Forge. This provides the unknown that I appreciate in a comic experience. I like the fact that Domino is both dangerous and a bit sexy. I love the literal “call” back to the original series. I’m thrilled about the fact that cable has, seemingly, returned to his, “Just shut up. This is what we do,” persona.

Larroca’s art is very nice. It doesn’t slap you across the face with its awesomeness but it is very much in tone with what I would like to see from the art of this particular book. Hopeless’ story is interesting and entertaining, especially for an issue #1. It can be hard to make people happy with a story while still bringing a new reader up to par. And maybe it’s just because I have a daughter of my own now, but I really enjoyed the moment with Hope and Cable. With a daughter can come a swirling debris of problems… but with this issue I really didn’t find any.
