“It’s like…a Royale with Cheese.”

The book opens up with two criminals talking about fashion, why shoes are classier than sneakers, and the difference between European and American girls.  Very Pulp Fiction, in a good way.  But through the course of the story, the camera wanders from the criminals to the crime scene to the police/FBI investigating the crime scene, to a reporter who senses she is not getting the whole story.

There are several familiar tv/movie/comic scenarios in this issue, but they’re layered very well.  This is also some of the most amazing translation work I’ve seen in a comic.  At no point did anything hit me as stiff or unreal, nor was there an any awkward phrasing.  The art is very textbook modern noir.  But it’s an expensive textbook, and worth looking over.

This is by far my favorite non-Garth Ennis property to come out of Dynamite! comics.  You should pick up a copy at your LCS early, though.  I’m guessing not many stores did large orders of this book.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
