            I don’t
like the Hawks. There, I said it. But Blackest Night helped me understand them
better and I was genuinely looking forward to learning more about them from
Geoff Johns in this book. It was nice to get snippets of different stories and
see how they were all fitting together. But this, this is not the format we’ve
had for the last 12 issues. This was just a story about the Hawks with 3 pages
at the end that left us asking a question we would have asked anyway based on
the cover of the book. This was exposition galore with a few pretty pictures of
Carter beating the crap out of anything in sight. The villain of this piece is
just too cookie cutter and I had honestly forgotten almost everything about
this particular story until I opened this issue. To be honest there wasn’t
enough of the magic and the mystery that I felt for the Hawks in Blackest Night
and the early issues of this series. Too much was explained in too boring of a
way. I’m giving this issue 4 out of 5 stars but not because it’s good. I’m giving
it a 4 because I figure that we got so much of the Hawks in this issue that
they’ll barely be in the issues to come which is a great relief to me. This
issue felt like swallowing a really awful tasting pill. Sure it tastes bad but
it’s not going to matter in the long run. What matters is that after you take
it the pain will go away.

  1. Yeah, once I was actually starting to enjoy the Firestorm matrix stuff with Deathstorm unleashing the Black Lanterns somehow, they throw all this Hawkman and Hawkgirl bluster at us for an entire issue.  I wanna know how the Black Lanterns came back if all their human counterparts are alive or alive again, you know?!

    WTF

  2. Yeah, at least give me a page or two on that, because that was big and could effect so many characters while this just seems important to the Hawks.
