Maybe it is the bad taste of 'Blackest Night #8' that is still in my mouth but.....Am I the only one bored reading this?

Seriously I am literally halfway through this, when Guy and Hal meet up with J'onn I just had the thought of: "I'm not caring about this and three characters Geoff Johns and Peter Tomasi can write well can't keep me interested."

It's tough to really criticize this thing without been too over the top about it. It's how I feel though, this was very boring to me. Nothing is being answered or at least hinted at, at why I should care on reading further into this series. Why is Deadman suddenly a 'constant' or helper for the Entity? (Also why did this turn into a Christmas Carol situation with him viewing everyone's problems?) Is this just going to be Hawk and Dove arguing about their views on life for twenty-six issues? Seriously, what the hell was Maxwell Lord doing?

These questions, and many many more, kept cropping up as I continued to read. Of course we have a full year and twenty six more issues to go, I know that. I know Johns and Tomasi are not going to give me any fully answered in #0 issue. But seriously....I need something here guys. I can't go on the premise of vague problems and tired premises. It's one thing to bring these characters back to have a meaning, it's another to just sell a comic (If that makes any sense). Like in terms of Aquaman and Martian Manhunter. I'm happy to see these two come back and hopefully have more relevance in the DCU. With this issue however, I just don't see a full reason to bring them back. So is Aquaman still a BL? Is it just going to be twenty-six issue of J'onn irrigating Mars? Seriously? That's the best Johns/Tomasi could do to bring them back?

It also doesn't help that the art in this is just plain medicore. Nothing wrong with it overall, but nothing outstanding either. Gleason, Syaf, and others are taking over for the rest of the run (I think), but this Fernando Pasarin did nothing for me. Scenes like Jade and Kyle talking are just okay, nothing stands out about it. He does nice effects like Flash emerging through the door, or Lord bleeding out of his eyeballs. But those are tiny things in a huge issue like this. Basically I'm saying there really is nothing to remember this issue in terms of art. It's just there.

I want to like this series, I really do. For some reason though this just felt very.....lazy is the wrong word (and too harsh) but it's all I can think of. As of right now, I see no reasons to follow these characters or have a justifible presence in the DCU. When you see the creative team though, for future issues at least, you see a reason to continue. A writing team of Geoff Johns and Peter Tomasi should be a good, interesting title. Art by Ivan Reis, Ardian Syaf, Patrick Gleason should be exciting for anyone reading a comic. To be a fair and sensible comic fan, I will give this another issue or two. Just to see the true creative team for the series. However, if it's anything like this zero issue with it's boringness and blandness of it all....I am not afraid to drop this, because it has so far disappointed me.
