If there is one thing we know about JMS and this title it’s this: He is always up for intriguing ideas. After last week’s heart breaking issue, we’re back with a more ‘out there’ and bizarre pairing. Nothing says an interesting title like…..Legion of Superheroes meet Doom Patrol? Plus its a two parter? Huh?

It’s hard to really judge this issue as a whole right now. (At least in terms of the writing) Because it’s obvious from the get-go that in order to really appreciate this story you need to read the next issue. JMS lays some clues that there is more to this then meets the eye. Also, if you’ve been paying attention to interviews like I have, you know the next issue is important. Having said all of that, I still really did like this issue. I know very little about LOSH and Doom Patrol but that doesn’t mean JMS didn’t make it interesting. The scientific banter got old after a while but still, the team up still worked. If there’s anything JMS will be remembered is that he has made incredibly mind boggling team ups into enjoyable stories. I don’t know if this will make me want to go out and pick up LOSH or Doom Patrol stories, but maybe if JMS was writing either I’d go with it.

Jesus Saiz seems to be back full time on the series now. Thank god, because although Chiang killed it last issue, I want Saiz to stay here. Still what else can you say that hasn’t been already for this series? Great detail with the characters and also a good attention to the action. The effects involving the back hole are really amazing. The image of the Earth just going into peices are really something to behold. Tom Chu’s (distant brother of Tony) colors also make this comic stand out. Also a round of applause to the letterer Rob Leigh, for doing a great effect with Robotman by the end of the issue.

It is a bit annoying that to really appreciate this story, you need to wait another month for the next issue. If you look at it though it really is a fun and exciting issue. The team up may not sound all that exciting, but once again JMS brings these two unlikely pairs for a great story. With the return of Saiz it is still one of the best looking DC books around. Let’s just hope next issue JMS really brings this story to a close in an interesting way.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
