This is an utterly ridiculous issue.  Probably the most stupidly fun story I’ve read by Ennis in years.  It seems, even in France, Frenchis has always been called Frenchie, and…and I can’t say any of the rest without spoiling it because…seriously a stale baguette?  Garlic?  Seriously?
