And just like that, my faith in The Boys is restored! And no, it's not
just the return of co-creator Darick Robertson on both pencils and
inks. OK, so maybe that was a major factor, but this doesn't feel like
the same Garth Ennis who's been helming the almost incomprehensibly
meandering Herogasm, a book more interested in showing superheroic sex
acts in every other panel that in telling a good story. Don't
misunderstand me, this is still Garth Ennis, so there's both a
beheading as well as subplot revolving around breast milk, but the
shock value isn't the driving force anymore, the characters are. In
this issue we start to learn the origins of Boys' team member Mother's
Milk, and it's a story that's both funny (see the previously mentioned
breast milk subplot) and heartbreaking. But like any good serialized
comic book, this first part of a new arc left me with unanswered
questions and looking forward to next month. That last bit, the looking
forward to next month? I haven't felt that way about The Boys in
a while, so it's nice to feel invested in these characters again. Bring
on The Boys!

Did you read past the first issue of Herogasm?
I agree that the first issue was way over the top with the sexual acts of superheroes, but that was pretty much establishing setting for the rest of the series. The rest of the issues focus on how The Boys are dealing with Vic The Veep. And while it does meander a bit, I think every sidestep is headed toward a major change in the main storyline.
All that said, this issue really was one of the best in a while. This was one of the most unique and interesting origin stories I can remember reading.
this issue was "classic" The Boys. By that I mean solid Ennis romantic origin story with a New York lovingly rendered as supporting character. Conversely it’s the same old thing for this series, paced excrutiatingly slow but giving you just enough to maybe keep you coming back. If something doesn;t happen soon (within the next2 issues) I am out! And I got the run up untill now.
