This was the best issue of The Boys since the first arc. The first six issues of The Boys were awesome. The second arc was okay, but the third arc, which was set in
This issue final gets back on track with were the first arc left off. Which is great but it’s a huge problem because I forgot a key plot point – I could not remember anything about the guy Hughie killed. So in the middle of this book I had to sit and think for awhile because **SPOILER** he’s comeback to life. **SPOILER**
I love the concept of The Boys, but the problem with this book is that Ennis doesn't develop each character in a little bit in every issue.
With Preacher he didn't need to develop all the minor characters right away because people like Herr Starr and Arse Face weren't in the book every week. But the Boys is a team book, so you have to give everybody a little something to do in every book or people stop caring about them. Not to mention that he has two other superhero teams that he has to develop.
Who is the Frenchman? Where is A-Train? He was awesome and I haven’t seen him since the first issue. But he should be a main character because he killed Hughie’s girlfriend and now he’s on the same super team as Hughie’s new love interest.
I’m not going to drop this book, because I have my comic book guy pull everything Ennis writes. But I wouldn’t recommend anybody pick it up. Buy the first trade if you’re a Ennis fan, but at this point I wouldn’t recommend going any further.
Robertson’s art is pretty good as a whole, nothing great about it in this issue. The Female looks like she has Down syndrome. But maybe she’s supposed to— it would explain a lot about her character.
