It had been a long day of reading crappy comics, so as I opened Blue Beetle #1 I quietly muttered to myself, “Please Please Me.” It had such a long time since I had been With The Beetle, in fact the last time I read a Blue Beetle comic was back in the 80’s when good ol Ted Kord was driving that Beetle ship back to his hidden HG after a Hard Days Night. But walking into my local comic shop and seeing the Beetle For Sale I just couldn’t Help but buy it. This new Blue Beetle certainly had a cooler costume then the old one – no Rubber Soles on those boots that for sure. But I shouldn’t make fun of Ted Kord’s costume, I mean I feel bad for the guy after taking a bullet in the head fired from Max Lord’s Revolver. R.I.P Ted. Anyway, I gotta say that I did rather enjoy this issue. I like how the hero Jamie is a not quite that cool, and really belongs in the Lonely Hearts Club. I also dug the villains out to recover the scarab, some of whom looked like they could have walked straight out of the cartoon Yellow Submarine. I’m sure Jamie now wishes he would have just Let It Be when it came to that backpack with the scarab in it, but hey, if he did we wouldn’t have the new Blue Beetle! I gotta feeling this comic could a quite the Magical Mystery Tour.
