The fact that there are two Superman titles out in one week that I enjoy is nothing short than an autumn miracle.  Soon leaves will be used as currency, and I shall sweep the sidewalk in front of my house in order to pay rent.

In the poorwhile, I’ll content myself with how well the use of Psycho Pirate gels with the current Black Lantern crisis.  Sure, there are more powerful corpses out there with big black rings, but as far as emotional spectrum manipulators go, Psycho Pirate is about as badass as you’re going to get.  And, man, does he ever rip Smallville apart

And, kudos ro Burrows for his penciling job.  When a comic oscillates from standard coloring to something unusual (in this case, you see the victims of Psycho Pirate in two tones: white, and whatever emotional color they’re experiencing), I tend to become more aware of the penciling, as I did with this issue.  And, it’s fantastic.  The detail is gorgeous.  And, not t take anything away from the Reis’s colors, but I would have loved to see this issue entirely in two tone.

The only thing that took me out of the comic for a bit was the ending.  It’s not actually bad.  It’s just  not nearly as badass as Robinson would like it to be.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

Comments

  1. I wish the Blackest Nite Batman & Superman tie ins were going eight issues long like the main series! That would be so great!

  2. I’m looking forward to seeing Martha kick some butt!

  3. @jabroniunc: Martha Kent gonna kick some ass!!!

I’d like to see them try to raise PA Kent from the dead but have him be at peace like Dove in Blackest Night #1.  No one is more wholesome than Jonathan Kent.

  4. @jabroniunc & jestr: I LOVE the idea of Ma Kent kicking ass, I just thought her way of announcing it at the end was really hokey.  As for JesTr’s Pa Kent idea: yes, yes, yes.
