What the hell, I think I'm liking the tie-in issues better than the main series.  This issue had so many good elements in it. First off, it's nice to read about Superman and not Ka-El again.  Also bringing back the Psycho Pirate, whose powers deal with stealing and replacing emotion, is bad ass and completely fits with the theme of Blackest Night.  Most surprising, I really enjoyed Martha Kent in this issue.  After everything that has happened to her with the death of Jonathan, she still endures.  It's nice to see such a strong female characterization, especially for a non-powered character.  You can definitely see the influence she had on Superman's upbringing. Then there was the scene with Kara on New Krypton being confronted by her newly risen daddy Zor-El.  This felt like it was straight out of a horror movie.  Eddy Barrows art was really good.  I don't recall reading much material that Barrows has done but this makes me want to get more.  I really like how Barrows portrayed all the people in Smallville under the different emotions.  There was a problem with a page break on a spread that was a little hard to follow but it wasn't that bad.  This is right up there with Blackest Night: Batman and the main title.
