  1. I… actually agree with this review. 😉

  2. Just curious, but how are the ‘holy shit moments’ not moving the story along? We find have a little resolution on Bruce Wayne’s skull, we have the only plan to defeat the Black Lanterns proven unuseful, we have Nekron addressing his problem with resurrected heroes. How do these moments not move the story along?

  3. I’d say what he means is that we had a Nekron reveal last time, and this time it’s just a bunch of people fighting him. The Bruce Wayne thing was cool, but all it did was put rings on more people’s fingers. It wasn’t really much of a plot device, all told.

For me, I can agree that the story is moving along. I just think the story being told is really kind of average. A villain gets an upgrade and comes after heroes and a bunch of colored lanterns come together, and the villain grabs more heroes and makes them evil… I dunno, there are a bunch of plot points, but I don’t feel there’s a lot of depth here. Just IMHO, of course.

  4. This was an outstanding issue. I would rank it just behind issue #1.  This completely out shines an average Secret Invasion story in many ways.

  5. @Rusty: Basically what @daccampo said.

Sure some of these moments move the story SOMEWHAT, but they don’t add to the overall narrative. Bruce coming back for a spilt second, or the BL Guardian dying are just tiny, insignifigent portions of the story.

Daccampo is right, the story being told right now is very average. It’s only considered ‘amazing’ because Geoff Johns is continually throwing in ‘holy shit’ moments to distract the readers.

  6. I respectfully disagree, but hey, ces’t la vie.

  7. @tnc: I agree on all points.  Until the Bruce Wayne reveal I was completely disappointed in this issue.  And while the Wayne reveal, and the final reveal were interesting, they didn’t, to me, justify having to slog through the rest of the book.

  8. Sometimes, you have to have Explosions, Gun fights, and Car Chases. Especially in an action story. They serve no other purpose than to take our breath away, and make us say "Woah! Cool!". Especially in an action based medium, like traditional super hero comics. And some characters only purpose for that part of the story, is to stand there shooting their weapons and/or getting their butts kicked. Sometimes those moments are the characterization.

Come down off the mountain and revel in it with us. We welcome you. It’s fun. And sometimes…. it’s the whole point.
