I’m really enjoying this series, I only read two Shadowland issues, the Thunderbotls tie in and the Elektra one-shot. Either way the first issue set up pretty much everything you need to know. This is just a really fun and entertaining street level superheo comic. Luke Cage seems to drop in each issue to bust “Okonkwo”‘s chops and his relationships with the people in his neighborhood remind me a lot of Ennis and Dillion’s original Marvel Knights Punisher series (in a good way.)

Vlad is an interesting counterpoint to T’Challa. He’s also foreigner in America and like T’Challa’s monk-like asceticism takes a slightly different tact to his supervillainry. He’s very aware of the rules of the game and enjoys subverting them and skirting them.

Anyone who has followed Comic Twart will know of Francesco Francavilla’s pinups and fun design sense; but here he delivers some stunning panels. The shot of Black Panther in the rain was startlingly good. The color is very dramtic and uses primary colors to get the point across. Especially when BP knocks someone’s block.

Good stuff !

  1. I agree.  This series has been fantastic.  I’m loving the art, and each issue is so meaty.  Vlad is such an interesting character as a villain.

  2. If they let Francavilla do the covers I think it would sell a lot better.
