Buying anything with Jason Aaron seems to mean that it’s like God’s own writing in a comic. Once you lay eyes on it, there’s a glow that just screams ‘Worship me, for I am the best writer today!’. Although I dont go with those acclaims I just made, or anyone on Ifanboy; I tried my best to avoid his work as much as possible. Cause with all of this positive look on the man, all it can lead to me is disappointment. But with so many people praising this book for actually being a good SI tie-in, well let’s just say I am willing to read his work just this once if there if its a good tie-in title that doesn’t have ‘Captain Britain’ in the title.

Well get ready to lose your socks on this but….this was a pretty good comic…..’Unbelievable!’, I thought, ‘How could a man write such a good Black Panther?’…That’s when I realise that no one has, so by default Aaron is now the best Black Panther writer today. The story has some dark humor and personality, especially with the Skrulls (Aaron also shockingly added depth to the aliens, one time that no one else has done in any of these books so far). They go with me, thinking that this is going to be a short and boring battle for Wakanda. Little do they (I) realise that Panther and his city are ready to rip some Skrulls apart and we got ourselves a tech and hand to hand battle epic in the works.

It actually comes across to me that Black Panther is pretty bad-ass. Marvel stated in the past that Wakanda is strong enough to take down the U.S. and if that’s the case then maybe they should use the character more. Other then just give him a solo title that is isolated from everything else and makes Panther and Storm a bitch to the Marvel U. So even if Aaron leaves the title after this quick run; maybe other writers can benefit from his view of the character and make Panther a better person in the long run.

So yes this is a title I will pick up for the entire SI run. Does this prove that Aaron can write C-Level heroes well? Yes. Does it make me intrigued about Aaron’s future with the company? Yes. Will it make me buy Black Panther in the future? GOD NO! I’ve seen previous issues, and if these writers come back then this title will suck major again for future issues.  But again, this is an example on how to write a character well. It’s not gonna make me think Panther is the best character ever; but it does my heart good that a writer actually wants to write these less important people in the Marvel U.

  1. Christopher Priest wrote an awesome Black Panther comic. Sigh… I miss him. But I agree, Jason Aaron did a good job on this title.

  2. I loved Priest’s run on Black Panther when it was first coming out. I bought the first trade in San Diego and was surprised how mediocre it feels today. I still liked a lot in there, but it had some serious issues.

This one sounds promising. I might have to check it out, if only for this story arc.
