Eric Powell is a master of writing odd stories.    But part of what makes his well-written stories work is his amazing skills of visual artistry.  I haven’t seen anyone match his style.  But I’ve always been curious what one of his types of stories would look like attached to someone else’s art, which is nearly what this comic is.

Eric Powell and Kyle Holtz came up with this concept of Billy The Kid, with the assistance of a bunch of freaks (and I don’t mean the girl in your English class who dyed her hair pink and wore  socks as sleeves, I mean actual half man/half elephant freaks) trying to capture Jack The Ripper.  It’s an interesting story, and I really like Hotz’s art.  It fits the late 1900s era London as well as Powell
s art on Goon fits Prohibition Era America.

I also enjoyed the brief digestif of Goon On Vacation.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. I almost picked this up cuz I thought it was a one-shot. Saw it was a mini and put it down.

Didn’t realize it was a Jack The Ripper story.

Might have to buy this next week.

  2. Fucking awesome. Glad I picked this up.
