BEASTS OF BURDEN #1 (OF 4)

Visually, this is a gorgeous story.  Jill Thompson is a perfect fit for this story.  The pencils, the inks, the coloring.  Everything perfect.  It’s a style I probably wouldn’t enjoy if it was applied to people, but as a pet-centric comic, it’s great.

Storywise, I just didn’t care.  Rain of frogs, talking dogs, giant frog, animal violence.  These are things that should have hooked me, but didn’t.

In my review of Atomic Robo, I mentioned impressed I am when an author writes outside of his usual niche and it clicks into brilliance.  Dorkin is clearly out of his comfort zone.  He writes great scathing satire.  He doesn’t write great stories about animals.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 5 - Excellent
