This issue looks and reads exactly like the early 90’s Batman  books Moench and Jones worked on.  It’s written in two to ten page chapters, filled with mini-reveals exploring the history of The Black Mask Gang.  My socks are still firmly in place, after reading it.  Not that it’s bad, it’s just…well, it would have fit in really well during their early 90’s run, but that was nearly twenty years ago.  Storytelling and artwork have advanced quite a bit since then.

  1. =(

    don’t hate on the 90’s. I wish I could go back in time with this comic. Say 20 years and shown this around, it’d give 90% of the market a run for their money.

  2. Oh, I don’t hate the 90s.  They were great.  Not a great time for comic art, though.

    I also didn’t hate this book, it just paled in comparison to more modern Batman stories.

  3. What the heck are you talking about? Jones and Moench’s run was from 95 to 98–not the early ’90s. "Nearly twenty years ago"? That was 14-11 years ago. Sheesh, just because something is "90s" doesn’t mean you can skew reality to make it look worse than it is.
