Don’t believe the descrition of this issue.  This is not Paul Dini continuing his Zsasz story, this is part one of a two issue filler arc by Mike Benson, and it’s BAD.  It’s a by the numbers “someone is killing the bad guys, is that ok?” story with no character insight, and dialog riddled with cliches that no one has uttered out loud in fifty years without a heavy dose of sarcasm.

Nguyen’s art is inconsistent.  While I appreciate that his art isn’t as line heavy as most recent Batman art, it also feels unfinished in many places.  And the shadows that work really well in the more stylized pages are less and less effective with each color on the page.

The Manhunter backup looks a little more standard Batmany, but the writing is atrocious, which I suspect is because Marc Andreyko is trying to tell too much story in too few pages, and is just throwing every trite expression on the paper and hoping it will all work itself out.

Story: 1 - Poor
Art: 3 - Good

Comments

  1. Thanks for the heads up on incorrect description.  Dini is the reason why I get this.

  2. Damn, DC solicits need to get their act together. For a while now everyone has known that the solicits might be misleading as far as story goes, but to give incorrect creator credits is inexcusable.
