Reading this issue gave me one burning thought:

Why isn’t this just in Detective Comics?

Paul Dini and Dustin Nguyen are a great team to work together and they bring yet another soild issue of this new Bat-series. But I have to keep stressing this question on why this had to be a seperate title. I’m not stating Rucka shouldn’t do his Batwoman story. Hell it got so much praise that it deserves to keep going. DC just puzzles me though on why Dini/Nguyen couldn’t stay on Detective and have Rucka/Williams do a Batwoman maxi series. It’s just nitpicking but I really don’t get it. I really don’t.

Going back to the issue itself, again it’s a pretty good one. I don’t think this is the best two part Batman story Dini has done. However Dini did a great job setting up this new Gotham with new heroes and villains going all out on each other. Add in Thomas Elliot as the main antagonist for the new Bat-universe, and we probably have a good set of issues for the next couple of months. I’ve been praising Nguyen almost every issue he’s done lately and this will be no different. The pencils actually look a lot sharper, maybe cause of the coloring/inking team(?), and his layouts are amazing. Love his use of orange when it comes to fire and that action scenes in this were really good.

While this is a soild issue and I’m sure this will be a great series in the long run. It’s just something I can’t buy every single week. It’s basically buying Detective Comics v.2 and although Dini is revealing what the main plotlines of this series will be. It’s not enough to warrent a buy every single month. So sorry to say to all of the Dini lovers out there, but I will be trade waiting from now on.

Comments

  1. They want to cancel Detective Comics.

  2. @chlop: Seriously?

  3. Because Detective will get sales no matter what, and they get to launch a new series starring Batman.  I’m certain they made way more money the way they did it than the way you’re suggesting.  Not that i don’t agree with you, i’m just saying.

  4. I feel like you’ve been whining about this forever. It’s simple, really. Batwoman will sell more issues and get more "press" in Detective Comics than this story will. This is Dini and Batman, it’s a guaranteed sale for most Bat-fans. It’s not some deep dark mystery or plan to get rid of Dini or Detective.

  5. @Prax: I think you flipped your sentences around there.

    Batwoman will sell more issues/copies then a Paul Dini Batman story? Where the hell is that mindset coming from?

  6. No, you’ve lost your reading comprehension skills is all. I said that the Batwoman story will get more "press" IN DETECTIVE COMICS. A Dini/Batman story will sell fine on it’s own, regardless of any help being in the longest running comic book will give it.

  7. I think magnum240 nailed the shit out of it in his post.

    I also think PraxJarvin is correct, to an extent, but I don’t think the "press" gives two shit either way two years after the fact.

  8. Hence why the press was in " ". Though think of it this way, DC is safer in case Batwoman’s sales dip. DC can hide behind the "It’s an anthology series, we always intended Batwoman’s story to be limited" in case the series flops. I mean, imagine how much some people would be all over DC after they canned their series starring two Lesbian characters, one of whom is a minority.

  9. @Prax: ….Well….gotta go!

    *runs away*

  10. @PraxJarvin – Excellent point.

    @TNC – WUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
