I picked this up curious to see what will happen. Not 4
weeks after the events of blackest Night, and we have our first cheat on death.
Oy. It’s not unexpected. Bruce’s involvement in Blackest Night was mysterious,
and we all knew that Bruce Wayne would find his way back to present time in the
cowl. The curiosity is how Grant Morrison is going to pull it off.

Grant Morrison is a stellar writer with a portfolio of
fantastic books. He also has a very polarized audience, and his writing style
can drive readers crazy. It’s his ability to write into the beyond, and conjure
the weird that really attracts me to this latest Batman tale, and Grant Morrison
really gets the essence of Bruce Wayne’s Batman. Also, Morrison is the one who
“killed” Bruce off, so it’s only fitting that he bring him back.

Or will he?

We arrive in prehistoric times to find an established tribal
system, and a story of a Boy who would be a Man. Enter Bruce, confused, and
armed with his utility belt, he eventually fights a rival tribe, and escapes
into the night, donning the skins of a giant bat. ‘Nuff said’. While the basic
story moved quickly, established the highs and lows, and brought us up to speed
out of a confused beginning, Morrison goes beyond and introduces time travelers
at the end. And it’s the end that is sweetest. If you haven’t read Batman in a
long while, this book might be up your alley. It’s definitely wotht the price
of admission.
