There were mentions of all that confusing Leviathan business, but thankfully most of what happens in these 20 story pages is a short little selfcontained tale. If you are familiar with a TPB called The Black Glove, or if you bought in issues too, Man Of Bats and Red Raven shouldn’t be strangers to you. I found the story of the reunited Club Of Heroes quite fascinating at the time and I’m now glad to see that those characters are being used in Batman Inc. (Of course all you big nerds know that most of the Club Of Heroes are characters from old Silver Age DC Comics brought back to life by Morrison in an attempt to have us believe that all of the 70 years of Batman stories are still somehow canon, it’s just that it didn’t really seem that long to Batman)

The artwork is enjoyable, but it almost seems as if the folks in the art department share a lot of each other’s styles. For instance, at first glance, I thought this way Cameron Stewart on pencils, but if Stewart also works with Morrison at times, I suppose it works out well that Morrison could call upon either to get the job done clearly. I am not complaining about the way it looks one bit, I’m just saying it seems to borrow from one particular style. I suppose there are probably just as many pros to that as you could find cons, but it’s just an assumption I felt was fair to bring up here because this is my review so I can whine if I want to…

Batman Inc. continues with Bruce Wayne going all sorts of fun places so far that I’m going to end up being pretty damn pissed of when we find out that after the big DC relaunch thing, Batman INC. could end up being pushed all the way back to late 2012 because Morrison is all busy with his Superman stuff. That means most likely one of two things, if not both. Things are gonna have to end up playing out faster then they were probably planned to, and/or we don’t get to see the actual anticipated ending of this run. You know Morrison’s stuff gets delayed all the time for whatever reason, PLUS DC has become notorious in putting anticipated projects on the back burner for so long that they pretty much just fall off the back of the stove forever so to speak (the past two Jim Lee Batman projects anybody??!!??)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not that I wanted to finish off a positive review about a good issue but it’s my turn to talk and I will anyway.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. Robby. you really need to admit that you’re a dork as well. That said, Chris Burnham is very good at imitating art styles.

  2. Glad we didn’t find much of Morrison’s esoteric stream of consciousness in this, but not sure why peeps are gushing over this issue, feel like peeps are overrating this.

Burnham’s work in this reminded me more of Juan Jose Ryp’s than Quitely’s, esp the gory parts.

  3. Who did I call a dork?  What review are you reading?  I have no idea what you are talking about.

But anyway, yeah, I think it’s good shit but I honestly have to say that I enjoyed Detective more this week….
