In the last review for this issue I mentioned I want a Riddler series or arc in the worst way. Now again after reading this not only do I want that to happen more so….but I secretly wish The Riddler was the next Batman….Er okay, maybe that wouldnt work out.

Still DeFilippis and Weir has done a great job on an otherwise ridiculous ‘debut’ for a villain. I mentioned it in my last review too is that I hated the 60’s Batman. The fact that DC is giving an origin to such a ridiculous character in King Tut made me groan. But the two writers have definitely done a good job to make me care for the new villain. It’s a shame though that the use of King Tut is limited, cause there’s only so many plots you can do that involve Ancient Egypt. But what could work out for the two writers is again involving the Riddler. I love the interaction between Nigma and Batman and this team up could definitely go places. Paul Dini used Riddler quite a bit in Detective Comics and it’s a shame not a whole lot as come from it in the other Bat titles. But with a good sense of humor and a pretty good mystery, DeFilippis and Weir shown the Riddler can still be a good character to use.

Once again the art is still pretty damn good. The backgrounds are pretty damn well detailed and the anatomy for most of the characters are good as well. The faces…..tend to be a bit off sometimes but I think that’s because there are some weird lines at points. Sometimes lines will be on the corner’s of mouths and eyes and that gets a tad distracting to me at points. But what makes up for that blemish is again the great use of colors and inks by Nowlan and Baron respectively. There’s no use of pink or purple like the last issue, but a nice use of blue and yellow for this issue. It’s not bright and colorful as Green Lantern Corps; but overall the color used in this makes it stand out from the rest of DC titles….Especially the other Batman series.

So even if the use of King Tut is limited after this origin arc, I am still having fun with this arc. This is what Confidential should be doing, introducing new villains or revamping them for a new audience. If anything else it’s again proving me that The Riddler might be destined for great things in the future. That is if someone other then Paul Dini and these two writers can write the guy just as good.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. You hated the 60’s Batman?!  You’re dead to me. 😉

  2. @Kory: It’s just too campy for my taste

  3. That’s understandable.

  4. @Kory: But Weir and DiFillipis is making me care for the villain at least. I wouldnt mind seeing him in another comic again.
