For all the complaining about Morrison’s run on Batman (and my voice was one of those complaining), maybe the biggest problem with the Batman titles right now is an editorial one.  The pacing of this issue was way way off.

I like the idea of writing this story in a chaotic fashion to mirror the chaos currently enveloping Gotham, but this issue…well, I once heard someone describe why The Red Hot Chili Peppers wasn’t a good band (which, I dispute, but is irrelevant) by saying they were tight everywhere they should be loose, and loose everywhere they should be tight.  This comic had the same feel to me.   Long drawn out exposition at some points, where interesting details were glossed over.  The Damien/Nightwing interaction felt about right, but the scenes with Alfred and Tim seemed to fly by.

Also, enough with the stupid narration boxs.  Did no one tell Tony Daniel that you’re supposed to show, and not tell?

All in all, I continue to be disappointed in Batman stories, and I really hope they come together into something enjoyable soon.  Apart from “Whatever Happened To The Caped Crusader”, it’s been over a year since I put down a single issue of Batman, and thought “Ahhhh.  I’d like to read that again.”
