Bruce Wyane: It’s funny, you know. It’s a good story, it’s funny, you’re a funny guy.
[laughs]

Damian Wyane: What do you mean, you mean the way I talk? What?

Bruce Wyane: It’s just, you know. You’re just funny, it’s… funny, the way you tell the story and everything.

Damian Wyane: [it becomes quiet] Funny how? What’s funny about it?

Dick Grayson: Damian no, You got it all wrong.

Damian Wyane: Oh, oh, Dick. He’s a big boy, he knows what he said. What did ya say? Funny how?

Bruce Wyane: [long pause] Get the fuck out of here, Damian!

Damian Wyane: [everyone laughs] Ya motherfucker! I almost had him, I almost had him. Ya stuttering prick ya. Dick, was he shaking? I wonder about you sometimes, Bruce. You may fold under questioning.

  1. How is this series so far, with Bruce and the Damian dynamic?

    • Tomasi picked up the baton handed to him from Morrison on this title and is doing a fantastic job in keeping Damian one of the most intriguing characters in the DCnU. This is due in no small part to his interactions and realationship with his father Bruce.

This is core of Batman & Robin and what makes this series a must read for any Batman fan

    • It’s good. In a nutshell, they’re each still figuring out how to behave around each other. They both need to lighten up, but in different ways. Alfred — who is great in this book, btw — kind of plays puppet master, benevolently pulling the strings to get Bruce and Damian to be a little more human.

While I don’t like the idea of Alfred as victim, I think it’d be a good story beat for him to disappear/get kidnapped, and — in saving him — Bruce and Damian find some common ground in that they both care about Alfred.

  2. I honestly think this is my favourite Batman book at the moment. I slightly prefer it to Snyder and Capullo’s Batman. Tomasi writes really good complex characters that come across as jerks, it must be all the practice he got from writing Guy Gardner and I just love Gleason, he’s perfect for any Batman book but especially one where he gets to draw Damian. It’s a dream of mine to get him to draw a sketch of Damian knocking Guy out with one punch…
