Holy shit. That was a damn good issue of good old regular Batman! I can't believe they didn't talk about Batman #689 on the Pick Of The Week Podcast!! I can't believe I only paid $2.99 for this issue which was better than the issues I paid $3.99 for this week, even Blackest Night #2!!

This issue is good shit from the first page. Two Face has been having his boys go around leaving tips about what the Penguin is up to. Batman is bringing down one of the Penguin's portable illegal night clubs in the very beginning. Two Face is watching it all. Anybody who can put two and two together, and has been reading Judd Winnick's run on Batman, knows that Two Face has already realized that while this smiling Batman is going around doing things by the book lately getting indicments and such, Two Face probably noticed that he hasn't seen Nightwing around in a while.
Anybody who read the Nightwing RIP tie-ins knows that Nightwing just foiled one of Two Face's big schemes. Then Nightwing hasn't been back around Gotham to check up on what Two Face has been doing, but a new and different Batman has just come back from a hiatus. I think it is fair to see that Two Face has a good idea of what is really going on here, and he is going to use it in his favor.

There is some more soft talk between Grayson and Alfred just like there is in every other Batman Reborn book right now. They go on to mention Damian even though Damian Wayne isn't in this issue at all. He is in the Blackest Night Batman tie in though if you really need you fix of the character. I, personally, am a fan of Damian's so I wish that I had been able to see more of him in this issue, but it is still a good one regardless. Some people out there are probably thinking that the fact that Damian ISN'T in it is why it is such a good issue.

Two Face might have something up his sleeve but Penguin has the new Black Mask from BFTC on his side. This is going to be interesting. I was actually totally hating Judd Winnick's new Batman run for the first two issue, but the third installment (Batman #689) makes the story so much more interesting. After reading this issue, I actually care how this arc is gonna wrap up now. I'm actually kind of mad that Tony Daniels is about to take over soon. Don't get me wrong, I think Daniels is a great artist for the Batman books, but I just don't dig his writing skills TOO MUCH. I mean Battle For The Cowl wasn't that bad, but I think that we could've waited a bit longer for his next writing debut.

Clayface makes an appearance at the end of this issue. I still like the character even though I can't remember which Clayface he is. Isn't there like five of them now? I barely remember the first one's origin but whatever, just go with it.
