Batman is one of those characters that often brings out the best in his creative teams. That’s definitely the case for Snyder and Capullo.

Reading this book is like watching a great movie thriller because it’s so active. You don’t feel you’re reading as much as you feel you’re there in the midst of things.

You’re drawn in immediately by the action and then the story flashes back to show you how we got there. While that’s a pretty standard storytelling device, Snyder uses it deftly. The story heavy lifting is done more in the dialogue, ramping up the mystery and the underlying tension in the action scenes. Then, when the action happens, it’s fast and mean. This is a fight with lives at stake.

And all this is captured perfectly by Capullo whose own storytelling talents are the ideal compliment Snyder’s. This is a creative TEAM in every sense of the word (And that naturally includes the other members of the team on the book as well).

What I loved best, however, is that Batman is confident… to a fault. That’s something we don’t see in a Batman comic too often.

Mystery. Action. Bang on characterization and dialogue. And excellent art. This isn’t just a great Batman book; it’s just flat-out great reading.
