Just when you thought this book couldn’t get more World of Warcraft-y, we get J. Jonah Jameson in battle armour, runic orc-dialogue and a crystal sword. With all these blustery, muscley dudes running around fighting to the death, Spider-Man might seem a bit secondary to the story here, but I disagree. It seems like a smart way to showcase Spidey by playing him off a bunch of loudmouths, especially Red Hulk, whose instinct is to fight his way out of problems — and by issue’s end, that doesn’t pay off so well — where Spider-Man prefers to use his wits. It’s an elegant way for Zeb Wells to show us Spidey’s brains while Joe Madureira shows off lots and lots of brawn. And pretty stunning brawn at that.
